TOYOTA and Lexus models sold in the Philippines are not covered by the recall issued by Toyota Motor in the United States.

Toyota Camry and Corolla Altis sold by the Philippine unit of the world’s biggest carmaker are manufactured in Thailand while Toyota RAV4 models are imported from Japan, Toyota Motor Philippines said.

Last January 21, Toyota Motor Sales USA initiated a safety campaign on sticking gas pedals of specific US market models, including certain
2009-2010 RAV4, certain 2009-2010 Corolla, certain 2007- 2010 Camry, 2009 -2010 Matrix, 2005- 2010 Avalon, certain 2010 Highlander, 2007 – 2010 Tundra, and 2008 – 2010 Sequoia.

The recall covered around 2.3 million total vehicles, winch could suffer from defective accelerator pedal.

In rare instances, there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedals may mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position, Toyota said. “The condition does not occur suddenly and results from wear. Toyota said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue and it is working to remedy the situation.
